Just a quick update before I head to bed. Today I headed off to swing shift loaded down with textbooks – my last two shifts had been quite dead so I was determined to get some work done. I arrived to find a nice surprise – one of my tests had returned with an above 100% grade on it and an assignment had come back with a solid pass. It’s always nice to know that you are doing well. I had just settled in and almost finished a question on my current assignment when one of the midwives had a labour that was ready to push… so I headed into the cubicle for my third assist. After a heroic effort by her mom I dried off a baby girl who scowled up at me and blinked her eyes at the bright lights as if to say “how dare you disturb me!” I continued to help care for mom and baby for the next 5 hours so I ended up receiving initials beside another requirement: “postpartum care and charting”. Nice! I returned to my place on the couch just before shift change and glared at my computer and stack of textbooks – I didn’t get much done on that, but at least I had the time to gulp down some supper. We endorsed over our mom and baby and another woman who had come in shortly before and headed for home. The nice thing about being on swing is that we get to have a ride home after and also don’t have to change out of our scrubs. Yay! Here is a peek at baby Hannah Ahria and I. She was fairly big for a baby here, weighing in at 7 lb 6 oz.
