Wow, it seems like such a long time since my last post. Really it’s only been a matter of weeks. Shortly after my last post, I woke up on Christmas morning to find my laptop refused to turn on. For awhile it made a series of noises indicating effort before giving up completely. This occurrence made me especially glad that my family would be arriving in the next weeks. Thanks to my brother making a little extra shopping trip during his Christmas break, a week and a half after my computer completely died I was watching the screen on a brand new one light up. Christmas break came as a welcome relief to a group of very fatigued volunteer midwives. No assignment to be working on and one less shift a week gave a little bit of time for some extra sleep, relaxing entertainment, and cooking good food. On January 2nd I headed to the airport to pick up my family and introduce them to life here. I was very glad to see them, and after a week I had gained a whole new level of respect for my Uncle Alden, who has hosted various family members and groups in several countries multiple times over the years. Yikes! Life certainly takes more effort when 3 extra people are dependant on you for transportation, communication, entertainment, and food (like food at least 3 times a day at regular intervals….imagine that!). I am still trying to reconvince my stomach that an apple or some yogurt is a perfectly adequate meal. After waving goodbye at the airport very early in the morning on January 10th, I returned to my bed for a bit more sleep before digging out my textbooks and getting back to work. I was hoping that the short break would give me some extra motivation for working on assignments again, but it doesn’t seem to have done the trick. I am currently dragging my feet through a nutrition assignment and would really appreciate prayers for some significantly increased productivity! Keeping a good pace on my new assignments would allow me to take part in some extra curricular classes in primary healthcare. I am hoping to post an extra special picture for Sunday, so if you think of me this week, you can pray for a wonderful birthroom shift this coming Friday!
